It’s been another long while since I last wrote, and there really isn't much reason for that. Sometimes, I just think life is rolling along so fast that I don’t get a chance to think too much about anything. Having just come back from Birmingham for our Council Meeting, I’m currently now en route to Bali for a birthday celebration. Then, the following week, I’ll be off to New Delhi for site visit. Oh my – and it just occurred to me that I won’t be able to visit my friend in Johor Bahru during the Malaysia GPG because I’ll be in New Delhi! Great…there goes another disappointment.
April will be another challenging month with deadlines for multi-sport even accreditation processes and finalization of the Gala Night preparations. It’s never easy working with our Indian friends, but at the same time, I completely understand their frustrating system of “approvals”. Apparently, it’s not enough to just have one approval or signature – it needs to be a whole group of them, which is probably why it always takes forever to get anything confirmed. In any case, we just have to work with the time frame we have and cross our fingers that everything will unfold properly. The only challenge is to make sure everyone pulls their weight – or else, with one site visit, I can already foresee some “oh, was that discussed?” conversation. Anyway, I've already been “kindly reminded” that it is not expected to be the same level as last year’s Gala Night in terms of program and décor. So, it will be very much simpler with a lot less ‘glam’ factor. That’s just unfortunate because I honestly think everyone found the ‘All Stars’ theme last year to be quite enjoyable. Despite having to sit through all the formal speeches, the presenters, awardees and best-dressed all had a good time. We really should keep it up every year so everyone can look forward to it…but oh wells, out of my control for that kind of decision.
Life-wise, it’s been good? I’m definitely out of shape. I also haven’t been playing badminton either. No excuses! I will just have to wake up earlier and hit the gym before going to work – whatever it takes. It must be done, so I shall find a way. I also haven’t been eating healthily, so that’s gotta change too. If I want to be a positive change in this world, I better positive-change myself first. The funny thing is, not many people think of that – looking inward to start the change you wish to see. Maybe because I’m so used to applying the same rules I would on other on myself that it’s natural for me. To not budge lines, rush into elevators or invade personal space – all of which I actually think is quite common sense, but in reality so not.
For example, just this morning when we were at the counter checking in. This Malaysian man was literally right behind me waiting to check in. In that annoyed voice, I said, “why are you standing so close to me?” His response almost made me facepalm myself: “What? I’m not very close to you”. Because I had to turn around and speak to the check-in lady, I just ignored his stupid response. But really, I should have pointed out to him that ACTUALLY, the wait is BEHIND THAT YELLOW LINE – 3 BIG STEPS BACK. Just to shut him up for not opening his eyes, which God so kindly gave him two except he’s wasting them away by NOT using them. Just baffles me how ignorant people can be, and can speak so loudly in that IGNORANT tone. It’s sad…Oh! Not to mention these two foreigners – forgot to ask for their Nationality so we can SHAME THEM here – who after checking in just LEFT THE TROLLEY IN THE WAITING LINE. Actually, the woman planned to just leave it in front of the counter, and after I gave her a ‘what do you think you’re doing leaving the trolley there’ look, she pushed it only a few feet away INTO THE WAITING LANE and walked off. That is just plain lazy. Would it have killed you to at least wheel it out of the way? Did your mom not teach you how to function in the real world, or you just don’t give a crap? Either way, you will learn this lesson the hard way some day. Yes, it’s not life-and-death, but if we all just cooperate and do our part, it can be a better world for everyone altogether. Every little act counts…
But anyway, I’m supposed to be in holiday mode! Bali~ this time, I shall actually get to enjoy you. Why do I say that? Because, the last time I was there with my bff for our grad trip, I choked in our villa pool on the day we arrived and ended up so sick in bed for the next couple of days that I don’t remember much of anything. Let’s just say, I hope to better my Bali experience. Even though I took no part in the planning of our activities, I’m sure it’ll be an adventure! Can’t wait to update y’all later.
Time to descend…Bali, nice to see you again!
