Dear Pipsqueaks,
As my usual routine to work, I like to listen to BFM 89.9 Business Station just because they're able to explain what's happening in the world of business without my brains filling up with question marks. So, this morning, they touched on a topic I wrote about a couple of years back...
Malaysian-registered Taxi Drivers. *Taking a deep breath*
Apparently, they're getting upset with the rising popularity of MyTeksi and Uber. *Taking another deep breath*
Well, well, well. What do we have here? A bunch of cry babies who never look to improve themselves and will only whine when others decide to one-up them. I mean, have you seen the competition? Yes, they have well-maintained vehicles. Yes, the drivers are clean and neat. Yes, they use the meter. Yes, they don't try to rip you off. Actually, all of these things are quite a given in most first-world countries. (Though, I do have to say I was quite upset with my taxi experience in Singapore because they would only take customers going in the direction that they want to go - and that is totally against my belief in how taxis are supposed to work. But anyway, that part had been written and blurbed until I'm sick of talking about it...). Not to mention their willingness to upgrade with the rest of the world technologically by creating an user-friendly app!
The fact that the existing registered taxi drivers are afraid of losing their business is enough to prove that they KNOW they aren't doing good enough. So? GET WITH THE PROGRAMME! Don't just sit there and complain how competition is doing this and that. That's precisely why they're called "COMPETITION". Le sigh.
Anyway, I believe this will only do good for the industry. It will force some to actually suck it up and do better. Go big or go home, man. It's that simple.

(Waiting patiently for the evolution to happen...while I enjoy my cuppa!)
