Dear Pipsqueaks,
This one is going back to university days! Okay, so here's what happened. A friend of mine sent a link around in a group chat, and as usual I watched it. To my surprise, it was a clip of someone from the past. Someone that fit 'The One That Got Away'.
Rewind back to 2009 - through a close friend of mine, I met him. Tall, baby face and had a big smile. Loved playing video games and riding motorbike. Actually, I came to know him because of his motorbike injury. That same close friend had wanted to pay him a visit and asked if I wanted to go together, so I said okay. We went by his house for a quick chat and to be honest until this day I have no idea what happened. I just fell right in.
I still remember trying to rush this birthday present for him - a scrapbook page full of his motorbike photos and of his friends with lots of stickers and text. I can't recall where I placed the photo I took of it, but trust me, it was one of the finest handcrafted page I've made. Definitely TLC. Around 11:30pm the night before, I gave him a quick text to make sure he wasn't asleep, drove to his place (from Burnaby to VanWest was probably a good 20mins without traffic), surprised him with the frame and left.
That same birthday, I got a mutual friend to help trick him into leaving the house and surprised him with the best tiramisu cake in town at one of my favourite cake shops. You could tell, he was floored.
What else did I do? Hm, oh! I also cooked a few times for the fella because he didn't have dinner. Fried Meehoon (my mom's personal recipe), udon, and soup. I can't remember what else, but I was in the kitchen more often than before, that's for sure. I think I forgot to mention that he was in crutches because of his accident. But yes, it was inconvenient for him to do alot of things, so I guess I just wanted to be there for him.
But - none of that even made a dent. Why? Because of this one girl that he met back in highschool. I've heard about her but never really understood how he could be so attached to someone who's left him behind. The whole time I've tried to win him over, he was firm and kept his distance. Though, I guess he didn't mind someone being nice to him. And I don't blame him - who wouldn't want to be pampered? But anyway, I can't remember when that episode ended, but it did. We just stopped hanging out and that was that.
Fast forward to yesterday - I watched a clip where it mentioned a couple that lasted few grueling years of long distance but finally made it together and now starting their own family with the birth of their daughter Joanne. I could see the glow in his eyes - absolute happiness. And I guess after 8 years, I finally realised who I was up against, and why I wasn't even close to his heart. Because you could tell, they love each other. A close friend had mentioned after I showed him the clip - "He could have been your happiness." I think not. He had always been hers all along. That happiness was always theirs - just a matter of time.
I love their story and would like to share it with you. Have a peep at their Youtube Channel TravelInSeasons - and you'll know what I mean. Best of wishes to them and may we all find the love that we are destined to have.
