I've been meaning to do a recap of the random St. Patrick's Day celebration that we ran into during the weekend, but somehow, the "postponement syndrome" kicked in. No worries, better late than never...
The night was supposed to be just a short chilling session with the intern. I mean, it was a Saturday night, n the urge to head out was much stronger after having such a WTF week at work. So, I finished gym earlier than usual, n just as I was flipping through my closet to see what I should wear, outside of my wall of window, was a full display of fireworks. It seemed to be arising from the Radius Hotel- where Changkat was. Hm, I wonder what was the occasion? (Yes, after spending almost ten months here, the western holidays don't mean as much to me now as we function on a totally different calendar here). Since we were meeting in that area, I could go check it out. So I did.
(it's only 11pm...@@")
(can't see an END to this crowd)
Just arriving at the entrance of Changkat, a huge barricade fenced up the start of the street. Mind u, it was only about 10:45pm when I reached the area. There was literally a mountain-people-mountain-see scene already. As I walked into the crowd, I realised they've moved out the party onto the street with tables upon tables of stacked beer. Not sure if the "event" was sponsored by Guinness, but a cup was only RM10! Even for someone who doesn't drink- me- I know that's cheap. So, u can imagine how much people were drinking that night, n how the number of perves increased among the crowd of drunk people as the night played on (Although, I seriously think drinking's just an excuse for people to act the way they REALLY want to- walking past girls n grabbing their butt cheeks or coming up from behind n holding their waists. Seriously, do I look like someone who will entertain u? My bf's right, I want a taser for my bday this year).
(free airbrush tattoos!)
Anyhow, when the intern arrived, we decided to just grab a seat somewhere n enjoy the music for a bit. But, it was near impossible unless we sat inside a pub. By then, I was craving for a juicy burger, so we headed into twenty-one n what do u know, they were whipping up hot dogs n burgers just outside on their balcony. Sweet as. As I gulped down the burger- so amazingly delish- the intern was starting to pass out on me. Apparently, she never drinks Guinness. So, we called it a night n headed home.
The event boasted to be the largest St. Patrick's Day celebration in Asia- meh, it wasn't crazy packed, but then again, I haven't celebrated St. Patrick's Day anywhere else in Asia, so I guess. They also had a tent set up for hourly Comedy sessions by famous jokesters, but as it felt like a freezer in there, we didn't stay to hear them out. What I thought was quite responsible of the organisers was that they constantly had people go through the crowds passing out mini water bottles to keep people hydrated. The bottles were stickered with short messages about alcohol n drinking- definitely quite odd to be doing that in such a party. But then again, keeping people feeling sober gets them to drink more, which in turn leads to larger amounts of alcohol sold. Ingenious plan. Just kidding, I mean, keeping people hydrated'll decrease the number of unwanted sickness or fights within the crowd, which in turn leads to a more successful event. There, I'm nice.
(table vs. table for most stacked beer trays)
For the record, I'm not a crazy party girl, but I do like to chill around n people-watch sometimes. U know how they do the funniest things when they're drunk. Of course, I'm also the designated driver/walker when the situation calls for it, so I'm not completely there for a show. What I think about drinking? Know ur limits, drink with in it. No one said u can't have fun, but don't do anything u wouldn't do when ur sober either. Just a lesson learned the hard way.
(my souvenir for the night :) )
