Dear Pipsqueaks,
Please excuse the no-photos situation as my laptop is currently awaiting to be fixed so I can use it without having to plug it in. In other words, photos won't be added until I can get my butt on my plugged-in laptop.
But then again, if I'm writing with enough color and life, then photos should only be the chocolate chips to a delicious oatmeal cookie. Additional. Right? Well not really for me because I rarely eat anything sweet unless it has chocolate in them. Soooo, a perfect oatmeal cookie to me is still missing a little something without them chocolates! Okay, definitely didn't sell that conviction very well but meh. Bite me. Photos will come!
Today was very much a couch-potato day for me. Breakfast here was just alright - I wasn't too impressed with the selection, which was probably due to me being over-spoiled at some of the hotels we stayed at for work. (Eh hm, Dubai). Not to mention, we kept having to watch our heads for low flying birds that waited impatiently for scraps left on plates. I couldn't even enjoy my cuppa as ants hunted in tiny formation on the knitted table top for whatever they could scavenge. Definitely didn't want to take my eyes off my coffee in case they decide to go for a swim to dig out the brown sugar I added to their overly bitter brew. Oh wells, I've had far worse buffet breakfast that actually make this place look fabulous. Anyway, I looked forward to returning to the room to continue with my thriller novel.
There, on the balcony day bed, I laid for a good few hours to read my thriller. Something I rarely had the chance to do. It's funny because I can also read at home. But for some reason, I don't. I always feel like I need to make use of the day to do this or that. Maybe I really need to just pick a book and find a corner to read. I do have a whole bookshelf! AND I intend to replenish my stock at the year-end Big Bad Wolf book sale, so I better start reading.
And what do you know? I actually finished a whole novel in 2 days. Really enjoyed that. Normally, reading bores me but when it's the right book for the mood, I get angry if I can't just sit and read in peace. Can't wait to see what else is in my bookshelf now.
But of course, we went out hunting for food around 4pm. Not the best timing as most of the shops were either closing or had closed for the day. Finally, we found a well-known cha kuey teow shop and quickly took our seats only to be told that the uncle standing by the stove had bought the last two packs. Not sure whether I was more upset or embarrassed. Upset because they were sold out. Embarrassed because I waltz into the shop and grabbed a seat with everyone looking at me - everyone knew except us that they were about to close. Ugh. NEXT!
We eventually did find a place to rest our feet - Coffeesmith. The rose latte & potted milk tea were quite good. We also ordered fried chicken and cheesy-egg waffles with honey. That sounds like an odd combo, but trust me, it's delicious. Generally, the place is alright but don't expect too much from their young batch of waiters. I had asked one of them what was this 'Wooden Stick Latte' on their menu, and all he told me was, "Oh, that's just normal latte." Sure, that so makes me want to order it. NOT. But yes, I suppose if you don't expect, you can't be disappointed. So just go for the drinks and food. Ignore the rest.

We did find another cha kuey teow place on Jalan Siam. Jam-packed with a super long line up. You wouldn't believe me, but we actually waited almost an hour for ONE plate. But, to be fair, except for the spicy bit, it was pretty good. I'd recommend it.
(This one was actually quite spicy, but I was told you can lessen the pepper. I would recommend it without any spices to try out the original flavour first)
(The 'kitchen' is across the street from the seating area)
Now, back at the hotel and ready to call it a night! Tomorrow is our last day so I'm going to make the most of it by chillaxing next to the pool. Ciao!
(A Japanese dinner came with the room - portion size, presentation and flavour weren't as impressive as the rest of the hotel. I'd recommend elsewhere...)
P.S. I didn't sleep well last night with this constant noise in the silence. Both were too lazy to get up to sort it out. It wasn't until my friend found the switch for the annoying fan after her morning walk on the beach that silence was returned to me. I admitted to snoozing in bed a little longer after that. Anyway, I enjoy the fan but I enjoy the quietness more. So yes, tonight will be a good night! Lights out, peeps.
