Movie: Me Before You

Dear Pipsqueaks,

Warning: Movie Spoiler! A theme from the movie will be discussed in this post, so if you do plan to watch this movie any time soon, then come back to read it after! However, if you're waiting to watch this on the plane, then it's safe to read now. It won't be on the flight program for a good four or five months anyway (you know who you are!)

So yes, the movie portrayed the clash of two very different lives, and how they got together only for the lady to find out that prince charming didn't plan to stay for long. Basically, the guy had a very extreme and fulfilling life of adventures - the kind that most people could only dream of. Then came the accident that left him pretty much a vegetable except for being able to speak. Yah dah ya dah (trying not to spoil too much of the plot).

Then we find out that he had given his parents a deadline of 6 months. He had decided this 'new life' isn't the one he wants, and has signed up to basically kill himself. And that nothing was going to change his mind - but he never expected to meet her. (That's all I will be spilling from the movie, promise!)

Well, the 'argument' here is whether the guy was being selfish. I think you can look at it in two ways. One, he doesn't want live in shame of not being able to do anything himself. He can no longer go out and pick up girls, travel the world and do crazy stunts. It's just too embarrassing for him now. On the other hand, he may realise how much pain he is putting everyone through. With him being totally helpless, the family has to function around him, and life seems to stop or pause for everyone else because of him. Too much guilt for one person to handle.

I suppose if I were ever to be in that situation *knocking on wood that I will never be* I would choose to leave after I have said all the needed goodbyes. I would want to make sure all those that I love will be able to feel my love forever, even without my presence. I would hate to be the reason my loved ones continue to suffer...even if they are all willing. Because I am unwilling to see them suffer.

Maybe, then, he is selfish after all.

But seriously, watch this movie. It's a very typical love story but it has its moments. Not to mention the Queen from Game of Thrones. Gotta admit - she's got a killer smile. JUST WATCH IT!
