"Do You Come From Time?"

Dear pipsqueaks,

*spoiler alert: this post will mention the movie "In Time"- if u've already seen it or u don't plan to see it, then read on!*

For a movie that I didn't put much expectations when I walked in, it was surprisingly quite entertaining (another perfect example to expect nothing to avoid disappointment). Of course, not for Justin Timberlake's moves but, as a whole, the story was quite mind-boggling. Feeling like, all of a sudden, I've dropped out from the sky into a world with completely new rules, it did take a few seconds for some references to register (a coffee for 4mins?! Is that expensive or what?). A quick background: it portrays the world where time is wealth in all forms- health, money, status, etc. Time can buy u anything ur heart desires, including more time. What a funky way of thinking eh? Whoever dreamt up this world must have been friends with the person that made up the storyline for "Daybreakers" where Vampires ran the world- it's not a typical fangs movie! Just check it out n u'll know what I mean.

Anyways, as I was saying, it makes u think a lot. Complaints about lack of time/health (in such a case, the discussion's more than just hours or days, but more along the lines of "years", which in turn leads to sickness or simply old-age) n money. But if u really think about it, the two does go hand in hand. On the one hand, u can have all the time in the world, but having no money will be a miserable experience (I'm sorry, I hate to burst ur fairytale bubble, but u can't live on love only. Ur landlord will not take ur paper-drawn hearts for rent, nor will the cashier at the groceries). On the other hand, u can have all the money in the world, but it's nothing u can take with u to the grave (u'll need another currency for where ur going *nod*). So, in the end, it's the two on different ends of the scale. U can't live with one without the other, even more, they have to be in sync, or in mirror of one another.

But, they should never be treated as one n the same (as in the movie where u stop to "grow" at the age of 25, but ur one-year countdown begins n u'll have to keep "depositing" more time- which has to be earned- to stay alive), because when they are, u'll lose the drive to do anything. Think about it this way, if u never have to worry about how much time u have, nothing would be "of a pressing matter" that u'll just take ur time, which u have. Then, u'll probably lose ur judgement on priority n overall importance of things. As long as u have time, u'll take it. I mean, why wouldn't u? A million years on ur clock? That's definitely long enough to do everything u could possibly want! Except, life becomes kind of empty n meaningless when u have too much control, doesn't it? It's the fact that there's an ultimate countdown that we try to make the most of our time in this world. It's the lack of control that keeps us scrambling to stay afloat, n that's all it takes to reminds us that we're not only alive, but "living".

Side note: I quite like the idea that u'd have to "earn" ur life time. That'd definitely clean up the world of lazy, non-productive, wasting-air-n-space people (I'm sorry, but we REALLY don't need them). Oh, n the fact that u stay looking 25yr old till u die? Brilliant!- well, that's if ur looking fantabulous at 25, then u've got nothing to worry about for the rest of ur life! (a scene-flash from family guy of the "beautiful people's club"- lol, what happens if u had a huge zit on ur forehead when u turned 25? *tsk tsk tsk* sucks to be u forever!)

Side-side note: of course, there're many other uderlying themes- omg grade 8 english flashbacks!- such as good vs. evil, darwin's theory, etc., but I'd like to think that the focus was on something more positive n motivating, even. So let's keep it at that.

Side-side-side note: an 8-hr sleep could buy me 120 cups of coffees. Hm, maybe it'll be more worth it to be chugging than sleeping!

(Too bad in this world, u can't earn more time...)

Make ur stay in this world count for something. Anything.
