Proud To Be An 80's Baby

Dear pipsqueaks,

*i came across this message n wanted to put in my 2 cents...

"I was BORN in the 80's. - We are the last generation who learned to play in the street, we are the 1st who played video games, and we were the last to record songs off the radio on to cassettes... We learned how to program the VCR before anyone else, play with the Atari, Super Nintendo & Genesis (not to mention Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong). We also believed that the Internet would be a free world..... We are the generation of the Thunder Cat...s, Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Saved by the Bell and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. We didn't have 99+ television stations, flat screens, surround sound, mp3s, iPods, iPhones, Facebook, Twitter, computers or the Internet... but nevertheless we had a GREAT Time! - Repost if you're a 80's baby."

'tis true- i still remember my very first nokia that would NEVER break no matter how many times i've dropped it, n how i used to record my own cassette by "recording" it off other cassettes (timing was everything!), n how my sis n i used to fight to play with our hugeass handheld nintendo sega...lol POWER RANGERS!...come to think of it, we've seen the birth n end of CD's- now it's some fancy blu-ray (or possibly something totally different now, lol). i agree, we didn't have all the technology...but i had the most amazing childhood, hanging out at the park, playing on the jungle gym, swinging on the swing set, shooting some hoops...or just on the teeter-totter chatting away. real face-to-face quality time, well spent. that's what "facetime" really is, isn't it? of course, i can understand it makes life a lot easier for people who can't be physically present in each other's lives, but if i had the choice, i'd rather really be Laughing Out Loud, or Rolling On the Floor Laughing, or... (Oh My God, i don't know any more abbreviations!) in person. Well, on the bright side, it means i don't spend enough time on these machines to be familiar with them, so i'm still living in real time!- as much as i can anyway.

but yes, we've been through a lot together, haven't we, 80's babies?! i hate to say it, but sooner or later, we'll be the ones treading behind on all this advancement. not going to lie, i already am! oh well, at least i'll get some comfort knowing we were the firsts once upon a time.
