Dear pipsqueaks,
U could say the day started alright- with the sun peeking through the clouds, it felt like a good day to travel somewhere. As time drew near, I started to pack around 3ish pm for my 8:40pm flight @ LCCT. I realized it was going to be a journey just getting from Bukit Bintang area to KL Sentral, then taking the Skybus to LCCT (whole trip looked about 1hr45mins- before my 1hr15min flight to Phuket). But of course, when I stepped out to make my way to the monorail station, it started to pour- big time. Nothing to be surprised of as I've already come to an understanding myself that the weather's never on my side. U could say I've definitely used my money's worth on the umbrella I got. Another non-shocker as I got fed up with a boy that kept pushing me even before the train pulled into the station, n being a person that believes they just need some guidance, I turned around n said to him, "can u NOT push?"- of course u can count on that being served with a death glare, n no surprise, he backed off. It's situations like these that make me wonder what they actually teach in school. Don't they learn about common sense, such as lining up, respecting personal space, n the usual "how to function in the real world 101"?
So anyways, I made it to KL Sentral with plenty of time to spare- I figured I'd rather be killing time waiting than being late n missing my bus ride n evetual plane ride- n hopped on the next bus heading to LCCT. By then, the weather was so shyttie that I'm glad I was taking off! Though, I did check the weather forecast for Phuket n it wasn't that pretty. Oh wells, can't control the weather! Finally arrived at the airport n the first thing I noticed was how packed it was. Ridiculous amount of people, but with flight prices like RM9, no wonder it's so busy. As I walked to get my documents checked, I received a text alerting a 40min delay for departure. Hm, great. There wasn't much to do at the airport to begin with n I already ate. So I sucked it up n waited at the boarding gate along with the rest of the crowd. Here's the thing with Air Asia- or at least from my experience n my gf can back me up on this one- it's never on time. If anything, I would be more surprised that it were. But this time was just omg-why, cos not only were we delayed twice, they kept switching boarding gates. I got so fed up that I just stood by the boarding gate screen to watch the updates as I charged my phone. It had even gotten to the level of dissatisfaction that I was just hoping I'd at least make it to Thailand TODAY. Praised the whiners, we were finally boarding n on our way. Soon after the took off, u could see the cities decorated by lights that reminded me of christmas. As we ascended into the clouds, I was fast asleep.
The flight was surprisingly short n as I lined up to cross customs, I ran into the guy that had asked me where I came from prior to boarding. He was from Scotland but lived aboard most of his life, n now actually lives in Patong/Phuket! That was a shocker but apparently I surprised him more being totally Asian-looking but very much Canadian n working in KL. Lol- we all have our stories. So yah, he asked me where I was staying n how I was going to get there from the airport n being prepared, I've already arranged airport shared shuttle. Except, we were more than an hour late, so I wasn't sure whether they'd still be outside waiting. He was caring enough to make sure I found my ride before taking off. Hm, that's one point for Phuket right there.
Finally going a little more "according to plan", I was on my way to my hostel, which was in the kata/karon area. Expected, it was obviously further than the map indicated, n the ride took about an hour. By the time we reached the area, it was past midnight (at least I made it to Thailand by today!). What I felt bad about was that even though the driver didn't know where my hostel was, he was patient enough to stop n ask around, n not until I checked in did he drive off. That's another point for Phuket- or maybe I'm just running into all the nice people in one night cos even the receptionist saw that I was very tired n said to do the payments tomorrow instead. Now, I've decided to stay at a girl's dorm simply cos I don't plan to be here except to shower n sleep, but even this place's a little scary for my liking. Apparently, I'm the only one here for the night, n being me, I don't like being THIS alone. So yes, I chickened out on showering for tonight n just brushed my teeth n washed my face instead. But seriously, what's worse than being tired? Well, being tired AND scared. Sleeping with the lights on...
From Phuket, Jessy out.
PS. On the ride into town, I couldn't help but notice all the signs that made absolutely no sense to me. I mean, as foreign as bahasa is, at least it uses the alphabets! Thai's just a whole new set of symbols that looks very fancy but only makes me want to say "eh?!". So that's what westerner's feel like when they visit a country with a totally different writing system. Can't get any more foreign than thai!- okay maybe korean with its sticks n circles. Regardless, maybe I should've practiced a little before coming. Oh wells, too late. I'll pick it up as I go! Time to sleep! คืนที่ดี :)
