Chillaxing @ No Black Tie

Dear pipsqueaks,

a sign that i'm getting too old for late nights: total break outs n feeling like jello by 2am. it's all good though cos i had such an awesome time with my frenchies (no, that term no longer refers to the quebeckers that we used to meet up with at national tournaments; it now refers to my group of frenchies that would call me when they hang out- just kinda makes me want to brush up on my french, except i'm suppose to be picking up bahasa! un à la fois s'il vous plaît...) anyways, the nite began with a text message asking if i were interested in going to a jazz concert. personally, i'm not a crazy fan of jazz, but i wouldn't mind, especially when it gets me out of my routine. but nothing gets in my way of gym time, so i hit the gym, got ready n headed out to meet them. the weather wasn't that great- i wanted to dress up a little cos it was a place in changkat (club/bar street in Bukit Bintang, aka. expat zone) n people usually put on something a little more fitting than what i ended up wearing, but seeing that it was raining, just totally killed the mood, so i stuck with shorts n flipflops. nonetheless, it was a good choice cos i almost wiped twice on my walk over n it wouldn't hv been pretty if i were in club-suit.

apparently, it was a celebration for the 13th anniversary of a very popular restaurant/gathering place in changkat. i don't believe i've even walked passed the place before, which made it a good thing that i came cos i would never have known it's existence. but there it was, hiding amongst the busy scene. it was a rather tight squeeze- possibly due to the event- but cosy. somehow, going in late, we were lucky enough to get front table seats smack right below the stage. with a RM60 entry fee, it came with a drink, so i thought, "what the heck, everyone's having red wine, so i'll just go with the flow" (just so u know, i pass out even faster with red wine cos it makes me so sleepy, but i figured we're suppose to be chilling + relaxing = chillaxing, so red wine it was"). having started at 9:30pm, we actually walked in during a performance of an opening act of another well-known local singer. the opening act/first singer (which is the one in the picture named poova) had a good range n control but her performance was definitely a little too over-emotional for me; hard to explain, but something along the lines of "too much expression" when she sings, but nonetheless, she can sing for sure.

the main act was atilia, who i thought was just amazing. she sang quite a few songs in bahasa that she wrote. of course i didn't understand the lyrics, but the way the songs were put together, were *nodding*. her voice was gentle n light, perfect for my kinda jazz music- soulful is good, but i'd prefer to wind down the night this way. now that i think about it, i should have taken her cd, but it's all good. i'm sure i'll be frequenting "no black tie" these few weeks for their anniversary celebration event (after i return from phuket). side note: the restaurant was, surprisingly, japanese! totally didn't feel that way at all, but nonetheless, a good atmosphere n definitely a place i'll take my friends who visit me here in kl. n of course, we didn't call it a night there, being in changkat already. we crashed at a bar n just chilled while i demolished my chocolate cravings with some brownies n sips of beer. except, that wasn't the best call ever cos i started to feel sick when i got home. warning: brownies n beer do NOT mix well. intake with caution. so by the time i got home, showered n in bed, it was already 3:30am. shyte. with lots to do before i leave for phuket, i didn't have the luxury of sleeping in, so i'm sure i'll look like a total zombie when i land in thailand tonight. it's all good though cos it was a night well spent. agreed.

going with the flow eases the making of decisions, but u gotta make sure one thing: that ur with the "right" flow before "going".
